Gun Metal
Gun Metal is a type of bronze – an alloy primarily made of copper, tin, lead and zinc. Originally used in the manufacturing of guns, this alloy is known for its strength, corrosion resistance, and excellent casting properties. It has a distinct reddish or golden appearance and is widely used in valves, gears, marine hardware, and steam fittings.
Gun metal is especially suitable for applications exposed to moisture or steam, making it a favorite in both industrial and decorative uses. Its machinability and wear resistance further enhance its utility across various sectors. While modern weaponry no longer uses it, the name “gun metal” remains a historical legacy of its original purpose.
